A note about our nice Patagonian wheather
Success will always depend, in great measure, on the climatic factors and the conditions of the terrain. The weather in this area is very unstable and unpredictable; you must be prepared for “wild” weather conditions and accept that we will do our best to achieve our goals.
For some of our programs, we take one extra day to improve the chances of a successful trip.
Our Mountain Guides will have the final call to modify partially or totally the programs..

STEP BY STEP DETAILS

DAY 1 (FITZ ROY)

We will depart from El Chalten to Poincenot Camp, walking under a beautiful forest of Lengas (Nothofagus) during some portions of the trail. Once at Poincenot, we continue a few more minutes to the Rio Blanco campsite (a special camp just for climbers). We will walk around one more hour to get to Laguna de los Tres (a beautiful lagoon created by glacier and snow melting): the Fitz Roy base camp and the best place to have unimaginable views of this majestic mountain. After some time to enjoy the views from there, we will return to the camp to have dinner. This day we will walk around 6 hours. Meals: Box Lunch and Dinner.

DAY 2 (LAGUNA TORRE)

After breakfast we leave Poincenot camp to Laguna Torre. On the way we will visit Lagunas Madre and Hija (Mother and daughter lagoons). After a hike of about 2 to 2 ½ hours, we will arrive to Laguna Torre. This is a beautiful place with amazing views. If weather permits, you will see the mythic Cerro Torre, Loma de las Pizarras and Cerro Solo among others. We will set camp at Laguna Torre for the night. Meals: Breakfast, Box Lunch and Dinner.

DAY 3 (GLACIER TREKKING AT LAGUNA TORRE)

After breakfast, we provide the crampons and harnesses, and head to the Torre Glacier. We will walk about 20 minutes to get to a Tyrolean traverse to get across the Fitz Roy River; using the harnesses and a pulley. Once on the other side, we will walk about another hour to reach the glacier; where we will change our gears to crampons and hike on the glacier for about 3 hours long, practicing Ice Climbing (“top rope” style, weather conditions allowing it). Finally we will return through the same trail to the “Tour Operators Camp”, to leave the technical gear there and continue our descent to El Chaltén, estimating the arrival around 7PM in the afternoon. The trek will take between 9 and 10 hours in total. Meals: Breakfast and Box Lunch.
